SERVICE OFFICER REPORT |
|
As we age our health condition changes. For
veterans, sometimes their changing health condition entitles them to
apply for disability through the Veterans Benefits Administration.
For example, veterans who have been diagnosed with Type II diabetes,
or those who have contracted certain types of cancer, and who served
in Vietnam, may be eligible for service connected benefits.
The benefit amount will vary depending upon the
percent of disability allotted by the VA.
Your Post service officer can now get you started.
The Department of South Carolina VFW wants individual Post service
officers to assist their members in getting their benefits started
or with increasing their benefits which have already started.
You will be asked to sign a Power of Attorney at the
Post level appointing the Veterans of Foreign Wars as the agency
that will assist you with your claim. The Power of Attorney
form will be set to Ms. Taylor-Jordan, the State Service Officer for
the Department in Columbia. Ms. Taylor-Jordan will be glad to
help the veteran directly, however your Post service office is
available to address your immediate requests. The Post service
officer can be reached at (843) 442-9435.
So, let your Post 10256 service officer help you get
started. Contact your present Post service officer at (843)
442-9435 if you wish to apply for a disability rating or for an
increase in your benefits for an existing service connected
disability.
If you, (or someone you know), are the widow or
widower of a deceased veteran, you may be eligible for DIC benefits.
Check with your Post service officer for assistance with a claim for
these type benefits, as well
